Thriller and Suspense Films

null
These are types of films known to promote intense excitement, suspense, a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, and nerve-wracking tension. Thriller and suspense films are virtually synonymous and interchangeable categorizations, with similar characteristics and features.
If the genre is to be defined strictly, a genuine thriller is a film that rentlessly pursues a single-minded goal – to provide thrills and keep the audience cliff-hanging at the ‘edge of their seats’ as the plot builds towards a climax. The tension usually arises when the main character(s) is placed in a menacing situation or mystery, or an escape or dangerous mission from which escape seems impossible. Life itself is threatened, usually because the principal character is unsuspecting or unknowingly involved in a dangerous or potentially deadly situation. Plots of thrillers involve characters which come into conflict with each other or with outside forces – the menace is sometimes abstract or shadowy.
Another closely-related genre is the horror film genre (e.g., Halloween (1978)), also designed to elicit tension and suspense, taking the viewer through agony and fear. Suspense-thrillers come in all shapes and forms: there are murder mysteries, private eye tales, chase thrillers, women-in-danger films, courtroom and legal thrillers, erotic thrillers, surreal cult-film soap operas, and atmospheric, plot-twisting psychodramas. Thrillers keep the emphasis away from the gangster, crime, or the detective in the crime-related plot, focusing more on the suspense and danger that is generated. Watch “My Bloody Valentine”

null
A psychopathic miner terrorizes the town of Harmony in this retelling of one of the most underrated slasher films of the early ’80s with My Bloody Valentine 3-D. 10-years ago, the lone survivor of an accident deep in the mines awoke from a coma and slashed his way through the town in a bloody, vengeance-fueled rampage. Though shot and apparently killed, the memories of Harry Warden still haunt both the town and Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), the heir to the mine and one of the last people to see Harry before his disappearance. Just as Tom heads back to his hometown after a long time away, so do the killings ramp up again.
While he mends his torn relationship with his ex-girlfriend Sarah (Jaime King) and her husband Axl (Kerr Smith), citizens are knocked off one by one in spectacularly gruesome fashion (all presented in 3-D). Has Harry come from beyond the grave or is there a new killer donning the suit and mask? Scream franchise editor Patrick Lussier helms from a script by Zane Smith and Jason X scribe Todd Farmer. Genre veteran Tom Atkins lends his B-movie chops to a supporting character in the Lionsgate production.

Watch “Another Earth” Movie

In “Another Earth”, Rhoda Williams, a bright young woman accepted into MIT’s astrophysics program, aspires to explore… the cosmos. A brilliant composer, John Burroughs, has just reached the pinnacle of his profession and is about to have a second child. On the eve of the discovery of a duplicate Earth, tragedy strikes and the lives of these strangers become irrevocably intertwined.
Nice acting, but not much of a story. I really enjoyed the restrained style of this film, but the story never really amounted to much more than a typical after-school special. (And the sage, self-blinded Indian janitor was just completely ridiculous and a bit offensive.)
I like the stripped-down look of the movie, and the theme is interesting (no matter how preposterous it is – and how much better it was fleshed our in Fringe and tens of other sci-fi franchises). As a post-crash story, it’s fairly conventional, but both lead actors are terrific. I had no idea that Brit Marling also wrote the story – good for her. The way the movie ends is a big no-no in many circles. Again, I’ve tried it in my own writing and have gotten bludgeoned for doing it. But I appreciate the questions it raises. If this were a mini-series or full TV season that were to end on that note, you’d probably have many more angry viewers, but for a 2-hour movie, I suppose it’s an acceptable tactic. null
On the other side, The two main characters in my opinion were both dull and inattentive to the greater importance in life. Although I do understand the need for some metaphorical drivel, the “second earth” could not have been more neglected. If directors really want to craft this sort of tragedy story, I suggest choosing something a lot less extraordinary to accompany it. Things of such great importance and intrigue are never served proper justice and I find that irritating. Barely a film worthy of a recommendation, also considering how hard it was for me to find it.

Watch “Winnie the Pooh” Movie

null
Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh, the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.” Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny. Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style.
Taking it back to the roots of 2D animation, Winnie the Pooh and Disney do something that is rare and exciting in film. They make a picture perfect family friendly film that everyone in the house will enjoy. The cartoon like animation is funny and super charming at moments. A well written script helps, but a great script makes this a great film; clean humor that is super rare in cinema. My favorite animated film of the year so far.
An absolute modern day classic. Very cleverly written, well animated, awesome narration and soundtrack. Loved it Loved it LOVED IT!!! So did my 3 year old boy, my 17 year old daughter, my 36 year old sister, and my wife! P.S. Stay for the credits for a secret surprise at the end.
Fun and light little film. I assume that the high scores are being given by people who haven’t read too many of the books, or watched all the older films? This movie pretty much copied the plot from at least 2 of the previous stories, so as a ‘grown up’, I was bored senseless. I actually dozed off and I think my two girls found it to be entirely unmemorable.. But hey, to each his own!

Watch “Horrible Bosses” Movie

For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers…permanently. There’s only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.
Very solid film. The comedy wasn’t gross out and stupid, it was somewhat articulate. I didn’t feel like I was a little kid getting read a story like I have with the past few comedies I have seen. Jason Sudekis, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman are very funny together. You have the Player (Sudekis), the Mature One (Bateman) and the Crazy (Day) much like the Hangover. Very watchable and very funny.

Furthermore, is an alright film. It definitely funny parts in the film and the cast did a great performance for their characters. The problems with this film is a lot of the scenes were they try to be funny really isn’t funny at all and some of the things they try to do to be funny they could of done it in a better way then the way they did. Its not the worst comedy film I’ve ever seen but its not the best. I would give this film a high rental.

Transformers- Dark of the Moon gives its fans something to cheer about. The third installment of the series makes up for everything Transformers 2 failed at, and goes a step beyond the Transformers (I) glory. The movie serves a huge helping of special effects, complete with a strong storyline. The car chases, the cars transforming or the giant robots in mortal combat- each scene is crafted with attention to detail. While the metal clashing against metal can be overwhelming in certain scenes, the fantastic VFX applied results in a visual delight. However, special effects are not all that the movie has to offer. There are some witty exchanges and moments of comic relief making it a complete package, or one very near to it.
Michael Bay has exceeded all expectations with Transformers- Dark of the Moon, which could, quiet possibly, be the best among the installments one so far.
Fans will definitely not be disappointed. Optimus Prime gets a third transformation capability, while a few other welcome changes are made to the Autobots team. Optimus and Bumblebee return with shiny new additions. Optimus Prime is a treat to watch as he plays the part of the Hero and impresses in every scene.

Watch “Born to be Wild IMAX 3D” Movie

null
Digital has also invaded even the world of movies. Every film made up of digital works is worth watching. As we observe the generation today love to wait for these kinds of shows.
“Born to be Wild 3D” is an inspired story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. This film documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them — saving endangered species one life at a timemore ». Stunningly captured in IMAX 3D, “Born to be Wild 3D” is a heartwarming adventure transporting moviegoers into the lush rainforests of Borneo with world-renowned primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas, and across the rugged Kenyan savannah with celebrated elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick, as they and their team rescue, rehabilitate and return these incredible animals back to the wild.
Parents need to know that this brief (40 minutes) IMAX documentary is a safe choice for younger kids because there aren’t any upsetting scenes of predatory violence or deaths, both of which are common in comparable, longer films about the animal kingdom. There are, however, some references to the reasons that animals were orphaned (mostly due to poachers, since predators don’t typically leave young animals alive). The two female experts followed in the documentary are wonderful role models, particularly to kids interested in zoology and nature, because they’ve dedicated their lives to researching and rescuing animals, as well as preserving their natural habitats

Watch “Weekend” Movie

A very good movie has invaded the world of movie houses and this will directly go to the weekender people who always love to spend the weekends in far places. null
“Weekend” follows Russell who, after randomly picking up artist Glen at a nightclub on a Friday night, unexpectedly spends most of the next 48 hours with him in bedrooms and bars, telling stories and having sex, while developing a connection that will resonate throughout their livesmore. This affecting and naturalistic romance is beautifully realized, earning comparisons to Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise in its exploration of how two people can come together only briefly, yet impact each other in a profound way.
Weekend manages to have universal appeal without muting its gayness. It’s a film in which love and sex aren’t fetish objects but negotiable aspects in a developing relationship. Each man has his limits and is only more appealing for having the wherewithal to know and accept what they are.
Naturalistic without being in-eloquent, heartfelt yet unsentimental, Weekend is the rarest of birds: a movie romance that rings true. After spending an evening with his domesticated straight friends, Russell goes dancing and then home with the object of his desire.

Watch “Thunder Soul” Movie

null
This year, we are very excited to see the film Thunder Soul in a big and wide screen. This is what we call dream come true since this is one of the most-awaited movies of the year.
Straight out of a high school in Texas, the electrifying Kashmere Stage Band was the brainchild of gifted music teacher Conrad Johnson. Johnson’s dynamic arrangements transformed the idea of the high school band, and brought his students worldwide recognition. That success changed more »not just their lives, but the fortune of their whole community. As one spectator remarked, “They were on fire.” He was right — they still are.
Thunder Soul honors the stage band of Houston’s predominantly African-American Kashmere High School, whose funky arrangements led to multiple awards in the 1970s. Director Mark Landsman intercuts scenes of vintage Kashmere—mile-high Afros and “the Super Fly look”— with reminiscing band members, who, 30-plus years after last picking up their instruments, are preparing for a reunion concert. They also hope to honor the man who led them, Conrad “Prof” Johnson, increasingly frail but still dapper and self-possessed at age 92.
