It has been two
weeks since the 2009 season has come to an end.
Once we said good bye to our
last guests on September 24th our staff
worked quickly to close up the camp for the winter; we were done the bulk of
the work on Saturday and the remainder of the seasonal staff left early Sunday
morning. Since then our skeleton crew
has continued to finish winterizing the Outpost Camp property.
In order to prepare
for the storm season the main dock has been taken apart, the small winter
dock is in full use and most of the boats have been pulled out of the water. All the tents are
down and the infrastructure is being boarded up. All the gear has been cleaned and stored
away. The office has been moved up to staff accommodations; therefore, the camp generator was shut down to save on
fuel costs and cut back on carbon emissions.
In addition, the barge has been busy with trucks, hay and heavy material.
The horses will have
the winter off and in turn their shoes will be taken off. A trail from the Bedwell Valley into the Ursus
Valley is going to be marked and cut.
The Fish swimmers have been counting the salmon in Clayoquot Sound and
have started their 2nd Bedwell River Chinook Salmon Hatchery. A new bridge is being built on the claim and
as always firewood will be cut and stock piled.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests and staff who made the 2009 season another successful and enjoyable summer for Clayoquot Wilderness Resort.
